If you like your vacations with a little spice, head to Beaumont. Just a touch west of the Louisiana border, it's a little bit Cajun, a little bit coastal, and most of all, it's a whole lot of Texas! With a bustling downtown area that's rich with entertainment, museums and great Cajun dining, done Lone Star-style, Beaumont is the best of Southeast Texas.

Looking for birds, some fun in the great outdoors, or a wild adventure? You're sure to find it here. From dense forests to cypress swamps, from alligator parks to sandy beaches, this region offers a huge selection of outdoor choices. Click here to check out our new trail maps!

birdwatching in texas
Bring your binoculars for premium birding
For serious bird watchers, Beaumont is home base for many prime viewing locations. The city is located between two migratory flyways and part of the Great Texas Birding Trail. Our premier birding destination is Cattail Marsh Scenic Wetlands, a haven to more than 240 species of birds. Other nearby birding hotspots include: Sabine Woods, Sea Rim State Park, McFaddin NWR, Village Creek State Park and the Big Thicket National Preserve.

texas kayaking
Grab a paddle
Go canoeing or kayaking through Village Creek State Park along the flat-water stream and you're bound to see plenty of the wildlife and birds native to this area, including wood ducks, egrets and herons.

texas alligators
Greet gators at Gator Country Adventure Park
Beloved and feared, alligators are Texas's most fascinating native creature. Gator Country Adventure Park is home to about 300 along including Big Al, the largest gator in Texas. Meet Big Al, hold a baby alligator and meet a few more new friends at Gator Country Adventure Park.

outdoor activities
Relax and enjoy a boat ride on the Neches River
Beaumont's downtown cultural district is just a stroll from the banks of the Neches River. Take a two-hour riverboat cruise from downtown Beaumont and see scores of birds and animals that live along the Neches River, part of the Big Thicket National Preserve. Neches River Adventure's open-air pontoon boat, The Cardinal, is an ideal way to take in the beauty of the "last wild river" in East Texas.

It's Texas With A Little Something Extra!
